Wagering On World Series Focuses On Prop Bets

The World Series is a grueling event for gamblers of baseball, possibly seven games, spread out over a week and a half, and for the worst of gamblers, the day after day action could prove devastating.

There is some relief, though, for the gambler who wants to try their luck on something more than picking a winner or loser, prop bets.

No, not the extensive list of prop bets that the Super Bowl has, bets such as who will win the coin toss, but prop bets on the actual games themselves.

Odds are available on who will hit the first home run of the World Series, with the favorites being David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and Matt Holliday, all at 5-1 odds. The long shot is Jacoby Ellsbury at 18-1.

The MVP race will come down to Josh Beckett and Holiday according to the odds, with Beckett being 5-1, and Holiday 5.5-1.

Anyone thinking that one team is superior to the other, can put their money on a series sweep at 3.8 to 1, and they can also gamble on whether one team will win three straight games, the odds say they will not.

Then, of course, there is every combination of team wins, from Boston in four through seven, with varying odds, to the Rockies in four through seven games.

The games themselves will draw interest because the Red Sox are there, and the Rockies are somewhere they have never been, but for gamblers, they will be back at that familiar spot, watching and hoping that they made the correct picks in their prop bets.

Wagering on All That is Still Pure, Pitchers and Catchers Report Today

Wednesday, Major League Baseball had one of the darkest days in its history. Roger Clemens and his former trainer took turns lying on Capitol Hill. Both caring about nothing but proving the other wrong.

Today, one day later, baseball gets to show why it is the national pastime, and why nothing that either Clemens or McNamee said, means anything in the grand scheme of the game.

Pitchers and catchers report today. That indicates a new season of baseball is just around the corner. For children all across America, that just means that their favorite heroes are back on the diamond, the place where children’s dreams come true.

Kids do not care about what is going on with Roger Clemens. Cynics will find ways to dissect who was lying and who was telling the truth, in hopes of coming up with reasons to turn their back on the game of baseball.

The truth of the matter, though, is that baseball will go on. Not only go on by merely existing, but go on by flourishing, as it has for the past ten years.

Attendance is up in baseball stadiums across America. Whatever the damage created from the steroid era, it will never be strong enough to stop the game. People get excited when the five words they have been waiting for since the Fall are uttered.

Pitchers and catchers report today.

Try all you would like to hold back. Then once you give up, just give in. Let that smile of joy created by those five words, make you reflect. Just how much happiness has this game brought into your life over the years.

Upon that reflection, the answer will be quite simple. The names will change this year, there will be no Bonds or Clemens, or Palmiero, or McGwire. What there will be, is the hope of thirty baseball teams, and the millions of fans that cheer for those teams year after year. Unconditionally.

Virginia Tech, Boston College Square Off Tonight For ACC Lead

It took many upsets to teams above them for Boston College to get respect for the season they are having, but now they are the hunted as they enter tonight’s game against Virginia Tech as the number two team in the country.

The last three weeks have not been kind to the #2 teams in the country as each team that has reached that plateau, has immediately lost the following week.

The game tonight will feature two of the hottest teams in the nation, as the Eagles have yet to lose a game and the Hokies have not lost since the seasons infancy stage.

Not only does this game have conference implications, but with their rankings being #’s two and eight, both teams are still strongly alive in the national picture.

With all of the hype that has been put on other conferences this year, this game will give the ACC a chance to show the rest of the country that they are still a conference that should be taken seriously.

ESPN will show the game at 7:45, and the game will go head to head in prime time against game 2 of the World Series.

Rockies Heading Back To Colorado Down 2-0 To Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have been considered the best team in baseball for most of the season, and now, on the games grandest stage, they are proving what everybody had perceived as truth, that they are, indeed, the best.

Colorado had a nine day layoff between their last game and the start of the World Series, and apparently that layoff has caused the Rockies some rust, as they have yet to get their bats going.

Now they head back home down 2-0 in this best of seven series, and they will be counting on the energy of the home crowd at Coors Field to revive them and get them back into the series before it is to late.

Boston was expected to have the better pitching coming into the series and that has been the case as they have gotten two superb performances out of aces Josh Beckett and Curt Shilling.

The Rockies will be sending Josh Fogg to the mound on Saturday night to try and get a desperately needed win for Colorado. His counterpart will be Dice-K, who the Red Sox brought over from Japan to pitch in this very situation, a chance to go up 3-0 in the World Series.

Should Boston win again, they would be on the verge of their second title in four years, and will be well on their way to supplanting the Yankees as the premier dynasty in the sport.

Xenophon Continues Anti-Online Gambling Crusade In Australia

Nick Xenophon has spent the last couple of years pushing for stronger regulations in the Australian gaming industry. Xenophon has made no secret of his desire to rid the country of gambling completely, although he has had a hard time convincing his fellow lawmakers to eliminate the big revenue-maker.

Now comes a report that Australians have used PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, two of the largest online poker sites in the world, and two sites that were frequently targeted in a US Department of Justice crackdown.

The report has Xenophon again looking to go after anyone involved with allowing the illegal gambling, and on his hit list this week was the Australian Federal Police. Xenophon claims the AFP has not been aggressive enough in going after the illegal online gambling.

“There could be a hidden epidemic of problem gambling from online gambling that we just don’t know about,” said Xenophon. He went on to claim that the law enforcement officials are to blame for not moving quickly to defuse the potential problem.

Xenophon’s stance is not one that is shared by many lawmakers. In most cases, lawmakers are looking to join other nations such as France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, in creating a regulated system of Internet gambling. Xenophon is strongly opposed to any such regulations, and it could cause a showdown amongst lawmakers in the coming years.

The Australian government has been attempting to slow problem gambling at a land-based level. The government is pushing legislation that would require casinos to install technology that would force gamblers to set betting limits before they played slot machines. The casinos are seeking to have that be an option, instead of a requirement.

Another potential problem in Australia is sports betting. Sports leagues have called on the government to create laws making it a felony to be involved with any type of sports cheating associated with gambling. Sports betting is a big business, not only in Australia, but around the world, becoming a billion dollar industry over the past decade.

West Virginia And Missouri Headed To BCS Title Game With Wins Today

When the conference championships take place this weekend, there will be plenty of pressure on several teams who are trying to secure their spots in BCS bowl games.

The Missouri Tigers are coming off an emotional victory over Kansas last week. They have no time to rest, however, after securing their place in today’s Big Twelve championship game.

Oklahoma, the only team to beat the Tigers this year, will be their opponent. The Sooners are the last obstacle for the Tigers to clear on their way to a shot at the national title. A loss, though, could knock Missouri clear out of a BCS bowl game.

LSU and Tennessee will be squaring off in the SEC title game. A similar circumstance surrounds this game. The winner will be headed to a BCS game, while the loser will be sent packing to a lesser bowl.

This week, LSU gave permission to Michigan to speak with their head coach, Les Miles, about the Wolverines vacant coaching position. The game today will tell if the speculation has hurt the focus of the Tigers.

Missouri will be playing in prime time for the second week in a row, and if they can handle the pressure as they did last week, they will head to the national title game as the #1 team in the country.

West Virginia can secure their spot in the title game with a win over Pittsburgh. The game is not a conference title game, but it still serves as such for the Mountaineers due to the championship implications.

VIP Leaves the US Internet Gambling Market Due to Chargebacks

In an email to affiliates VIP.com has announced that effective immediately they will no longer be accepting new US players. The same holds true for Canadian players. The actions are being taken as a result of a large number of chargebacks the company has received from US and Canadian players.

The chargebacks are being caused by the players using depositing methods not as reputable as Neteller. Since Neteller left the scene there have been few depositing options available. Many US and Canadian players were finding that they were suddenly able to deposit simply by using their credit cards, which the Internet gambling world was enthused about at first. However, in the past three weeks the amount of chargebacks from the players who used these depositing methods has been more than VIP could handle.

Other companies, like the sister site of VIP, Casino Coins, who operate SuperSlots, English Harbour, and Caribbean Gold, have also reported a very large number of chargebacks. It is not known whether they will follow VIP’s lead and leave the US and Canadian industry.

UK Sportsbooks To Share Profits With Major UK Sports Leagues

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Sports in the UK have been lobbying for a cut of the bookmaking industry for a long time and government has finally heard their voice, and agrees with it, so the Minister has thrown support their way and will begin to negotiate with the bookmakers on how much they will have to give.

Richard Caborn and Tessa Jowell agreed on Wednesday in a meeting to support the case of the five major UK sports: Tennis, both codes of Cricket and Rugby, and Football. Now it is up to Caborn to contact bookmakers and negotiate a settlement.

There is a levy system in place for racing, but that is unlikely to be used in the cases of the other sports. Most likely scenario is that sportsbooks would donate $5 million and $10 million annually, to be made as a voluntary payment. In return, the sports governing bodies would agree to spend the money they receive on building grassroots programs, and policing their events.

The sports had argued that the integrity of their games were at stake by having gamblers receive inside information and games possibly being fixed.

The Gambling Act that will be in force in September will make cheating and the misuse of inside information a criminal offense, with a penalty of up to two years in prison.

With the government recently regulating sportsbooks, sports are hopeful that when the Gambling Commission publishes it’s findings later this month on the issue of information sharing, that the bookies will pass on info on any suspicious betting patterns that gamblers might have.

The one trouble area for these regulations and profit sharing is that once the five major sports start receiving money, less popular sports like darts and snooker may soon come calling, looking for their piece of the profits.
